Butterfly Wings Tray
This magnificent work of art was created by Carlos Zipperer, artist/artisan from Brazil circa 1920s-1930s, probably the finest artist to work in this medium. This stunning tray is made up of genuine butterfly wings that — mostly made up of Morpho Blue Butterfly Wings in all of its iridescent beauty. In my many years of collecting, this is probably the most beautiful example of this type of artwork I have ever seen. These extraordinarily beautiful butterflies, Native to Central and South America, were most likely found in the rainforests of the Amazon. The wonderful colors and the complex mosaic pattern of this tray demonstrates the ingenuity and aesthetics for what this artist is best known. The artwork is entirely covered in glass and the hand inlaid solid Rosewood tray serves as the "frame" for this artistic creation—right up to the bent curved wood handles on either side.
The back of the tray retains the original Carlos Zipperer Sobr. label that reads:
Carlos Zipperer Sobr.
Rua Bar. do Rio Branco, 209
Sao Bento do Sul - S. Cat
N.
Industria Brasileria
The tray measures approximately 20.25 in. L x 13.5 in. W x 1.5 in. H
Any devotee of this art form will delight in owning this remarkable work of art by this wonderful artist.
